These cards are not just helping North Dakota farmers; the sunflower cards have been translated into Chinese.

Markets
USDA’s November Crop Production report for soybeans was within the range of pre-report estimates, so no surprises for traders. USDA pegged soybean acreage for 2017-18 at 89.5 million acres, the same from its October estimate. If realized, it would be a record high for soybean acreage. With the USDA production estimate in the market and harvest wrapping up in the Northern Hemisphere attention now shifts to demand and to South America's crops. Sunflower harvest is getting close to wrapping up in the US. Most states are equal to or slightly ahead of the five-year average harvest pace per USDA. Yield reports continue to be inconsistent ranging from below average to above average depending on the area and weather conditions it experienced this year. In the past week, producers harvested an additional 135,240 acres pushing 2017 harvested acres to almost 1,017,100 acres. This represents 81% of this year’s projected harvested acres and is slightly behind the five-year average. Seed quality remains generally very good. Sunflower prices at the crush plants ended the week mixed at down 15 cents to up 20 cents. Birdfood prices have begun to trend upward this week as well. New crop sunflower prices are out at the crush plants with cash and Act of God (AOG) contracts available. Something else to consider is the oil premiums that crush plants pay on sunflower.
