CROP & WEATHER COMMENTS
The nation’s sunflower crop is progressing nicely and the maturity of the crop is ahead of last year’s cool season. Crop condition ratings by USDA improved or remained unchanged in most states with the exception of ND which had a rating decline. Soil moisture conditions in all states continue to be above average compared to the five year average. There are no significant areas rated as ‘very short’ in soil moisture throughout the growing region. USDA’s sunflower in bloom rating is: Kansas 17 percent; North Dakota 5 percent and South Dakota 9 percent.
