Sunflower Crop Progress August 17, 2009

CROP & WEATHER COMMENTS
Crop maturity continues to be the greatest concern in the northern states. Most ND locations are 10 to 12 days behind the five year average in growing degree days. Insect pests and rust need continuing monitoring.

SUNFLOWER IN BLOOM
The 2009 season has been similar to the 2004 season in terms if temperature and moisture. For comparison, the percent bloom as of August 17, 2004 was 63 percent in ND; 73 percent in SD; and 64 percent in KS.
