Sunflower Crop Progress July 26, 2009
7/27/2009
USDA CROP RATINGS as of JULY 26, 2009 according to USDA Weekly Crop Weather | | STATE | VERY POOR | POOR | FAIR | GOOD | EXCELLENT | | South Dakota | 1% | 4% | 22% | 63% | 10% | | Kansas | 1% | 6% | 19% | 59% | 15% | | North Dakota | 0% | 1% | 21% | 69% | 9% | | Minnesota | 1% | 9% | 32% | 49% | 9% |
CROP and WEATHER COMMENTS Of the four states reporting sunflower ratings, only Minnesota rating improved from last week. The decline in the other three states was minimal. The week just completed provided near average heat units but the temperatures the next five days are forecast to be below normal in the Dakotas and Minnesota. Heat units so far this season are similar to 2004 in the northern region. There are only a few areas with very limited soil moisture in the entire production region. However, most areas would welcome a rain to improve topsoil conditions.
