Rating improvements over last week were noted in Kansas and South Dakota. North Dakota’s rating remained unchanged while Minnesota’s rating declined slightly. Kansas planting is reported to be 95 percent complete as the last acres of sunflower after winter wheat are planted. Kansas also reports that 8 percent of the crop is in bloom. Eighty percent of the intended sunflower has been planted in Texas. Temperatures remain below normal in the northern production region while rainfall has been average to above average. According to the USDA Weekly Crop/Weather Reports, ND average temperatures were from 2 to 6 degrees below normal while SD average temperatures were 1-4 degrees below normal. Soil moisture remains above average in most areas.
