Sunflower Root Weevil
The sunflower root weevil, Baris strenua (LeConte) Can cause severe wilting of sunflower plants, although damage is usually in localized areas and the fields typically have sandy soil profiles. The sunflower root weevil adults cause negligible injury to the sunflower foliage. The destruction of root tissue by the larvae causes the plants to wilt and lodge if the infestation is severe.
