This year’s theme: No-Till: An Evolution Towards Sustainable Ag will feature several top notch speakers including, Dr. David Montgomery from the University of Washington. David will be presenting on the role of soil use and abuse in the history of societies and discusses how the rise of no-till farming - conservation agriculture is bringing hope for a new agricultural revolution. In addition, Juca Sa’, Professor in the Department of Soil Science at the State University of Ponta Grossa, Brazil will discuss how producers can propel their operations to a higher level of productivity, profitability and sustainability while reducing costs – even in a cold climate as found in the northern Great Plains. He has several ideas for no-till that will challenge even the most experienced no-till producers in considering the options. Other speakers include, Dr. Shannon Osborne, Scientist, North Central Agricultural Research Laboratory, who will discuss some of the results from new research she has been associated with and what producers need to consider in justifying the use of cover crops. James Hoorman, Extension Educator, Ohio State University Extension Service, will share on the biology of soil compaction, what producers need to do to solve this problem for the long term rather than the band-aid approach often employed.
